IMG_3235 (2)Taroom’s very own Nell Blackley has again proved she can whip up a winner, taking out the dark rick fruit cake competition for the third time in five years.

Her recent win at the South West subchamber regional finals, held in St George on June 27, means she will now contest the Queensland finals which run in conjunction with the Brisbane Exhibition.

Taroom’s 2015 Miss Showgirl entrant Natalya Schumacher did the show society proud, but the tough competition saw Mkarla James from Wandoan awarded the South West Miss Showgirl title. Miles entrant Chloe Kerwick was named runner-up.

The Rural Ambassador competition was won by Dirranbandi school teacher Caitlin Crothers, while Wandoan’s Jae Ryan was announced the runner-up. This year’s results were identical to those achieved last year- Taroom, Wandoan and Dirranbandi won the fruit cake, Miss Showgirl and Rural Ambassador respectively in 2014.

The South West subchamber also held their annual general meeting at St George. Christie McLennan from the Taroom Show Society was voted in as president, while Neville Stiller from the Wandoan Show Society took on the vice president role.

Andrea Schulz was voted to stay on as secretary and treasurer, and Dirranbandi’s Lorraine Crothers as the QCAS delegate. Andrea was also endorsed as the alternate delegate.

The Taroom Show Society will host the 2016 South West regional finals and annual general meeting on June 25.
